Description

This colored World War II-era poster was used as a recruitment tool for the Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES), or the women's branch of the United States Naval Reserve. The white woman, wearing her Navy uniform, is saluting in a show of patriotism, and the subheading, "Release a Man to Fight at Sea" brings forth a sense of duty.
