We'll Meet Again

After seeing all of the artists and their work, we have to realize the power and influence they had. Without the music they gave, we may not have accomplished such feats as scaling the 100ft cliff at Pointe-du-Hoc in Normandy or the grueling one month Battle of Iwo Jima. I will leave you with one last song clip. It is from a British vocalist, Vera Lynn. She was not know for much else other than this song. "We'll Meet Again", written in 1939, displays a common belief that the war will end soon and that everyone will return home safely. Not only was that not true, it was complete nonsense after five more years of fighting. The song is a stark reminder that no matter the conflict, the general public is usually supportive of it initially until it drags on longer than it should, or if the loss of life is unbearable. It is truly chilling to know that some men listened to this song in hopes of returning home, but never were able to accomplish that goal.
